Chapter 3: Academic Pursuits

While their love story was unfolding, Cory and Amanda were also carving out their academic paths. Cory pursued his Bachelor’s in Kinesiology and Health from Iowa State University (ISU). During his time at ISU, he not only excelled academically but also continued his to fuel his passion for hockey by playing for the university team.

On the other hand, Amanda ventured to the University of Western Ontario (UWO), where she pursued a Bachelor’s in Linguistics followed by another Bachelor’s in Psychology. She also showcased her athletic prowess by playing varsity Ringette for UWO. Balancing academics and athletics has taught them the importance of resilience and discipline – lessons that would later shape their approach to chiropractic care.

Chapter 4: Shared Dreams and Aspirations

After completing their undergraduate studies, Cory and Amanda felt a calling towards chiropractic care, marking another chapter in their intertwined lives. They enrolled at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Florida, where they honed in on their skills and gained a deeper understanding of the body’s intricate mechanics. Their commitment to each other was sealed in 2018 when they tied the knot while studying at Palmer. During their time studying at Palmer, they also adopted an active lifestyle, participating in CrossFit and continuing to play hockey together.

Chapter 5: The Golden State Adventure

Three years ago, the adventurous duo decided to make a move to Truckee, California. Cory began practicing chiropractic care in Truckee while Amanda practiced in nearby Reno, Nevada. Embracing the spirit of Tahoe California, they delved into ultra running, mountain biking and backcountry snowboarding, adding new dimensions to their active lifestyle.

Chapter 6: Coming Full Circle

As life often comes full circle, Cory and Amanda recently decided to return to their roots in Florida. They moved back to start a practice of their own and to be closer to family. Their journey has been marked by shared dreams, mutual support, and a passion for both personal and professional growth.

Chapter 1: Early Days

Cory was born and raised in the sunshine state of Florida, where the allure of the ocean shaped his childhood. Amanda, on the other hand, was born in North Bay, Ontario, Canada, a place renowned for its scenic beauty and vibrant community.

Chapter 2: A Chance Meeting

Fate had its plans when Cory, pursuing his passion for hockey, found himself in North Bay in playing junior hockey. It was here, in 2011, when destiny brought Cory and Amanda together. While Cory was deeply involved in hockey, Amanda was making her mark in AAA Ringette, a sport that combines elements of hockey and lacrosse. Their shared passion for athletics laid the foundation for a blossoming relationship.

Dr. Cory Sellers, DC

Rehabilitation Focused Chiropractor and Certified Primary Spine Practitioner

I am a chiropractor who specializes in rehabilitation and active care. My focus is helping people overcome spine and joint pain by building strength, improving movement, and restoring confidence in their bodies so they can get back to doing what they love without becoming dependent on ongoing treatment.

I grew up in Longwood, Florida and spent much of my life playing competitive ice hockey, including at the collegiate level at Iowa State University. Like many athletes, injuries were part of my journey. Those experiences are what first pushed me toward rehabilitation and understanding how the body heals, adapts, and becomes more resilient through movement.

Before returning to Central Florida, I lived and worked in California, Hawaii, Illinois, and Ontario. Living in different parts of the country exposed me to a wide range of healthcare systems, training styles, and patient populations. Those experiences helped shape the way I practice today and reinforced my belief that care should be individualized, intentional, and focused on long term results.

I earned my Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Port Orange, Florida and graduated in 2019. After working in multiple chiropractic offices, I began noticing the same pattern over and over. Care was often driven by volume and repeat visits, with patients receiving the same treatments regardless of their goals or condition. Many people felt temporary relief but continued dealing with the same pain months or even years later.

That frustration is what led my wife and me to open Momentum Spine and Sport. We wanted to create a different kind of clinic. At Momentum, care is centered around active rehabilitation, evidence informed decision making, and patient education. My goal is not to keep you coming in forever, but to help you understand your body, build capacity through movement, and become more confident and independent over time.

What Is a Certified Primary Spine Practitioner?

I am a Certified Primary Spine Practitioner through the University of Pittsburgh. This certification trains clinicians to serve as the first point of contact for people dealing with spine related pain such as low back pain, neck pain, sciatica, and other spinal disorders.

As a Primary Spine Practitioner, my role is to determine what care is truly necessary and what is not. That may include rehabilitation, education, reassurance, activity modification, or referral when appropriate. The focus is not on treating MRI findings or chasing symptoms, but on improving function, reducing pain, and helping you return to normal life with clarity and confidence.

This approach emphasizes conservative, non surgical care and helps reduce unnecessary imaging, procedures, and prolonged treatment plans. The goal is always the same clear answers, a plan that makes sense, and results that last.

Continuing Education and Certifications

  • Certified Primary Spine Practitioner through the University of Pittsburgh

  • Titleist Performance Institute Certified Practitioner

  • McKenzie Method Part A Lumbar Spine

  • McKenzie Method Part B Cervical Spine

  • McKenzie Method Part C Advanced Lumbar Spine

  • Ongoing continuing education in rehabilitation based care including neurodynamics, SFMA, and FMS.

Key characteristics and responsibilities of a Primary Spine Practitioner:

  • PSPs are trained to conduct thorough assessments of patients with spine-related complaints. This involves a detailed examination to identify the root causes of pain or dysfunction.

  • A PSP is skilled in diagnosing a wide range of spine-related conditions. This may include issues such as back pain, neck pain, sciatica, herniated discs, and other musculoskeletal disorders affecting the spine.

  • Primary Spine Practitioners utilize evidence-based treatment approaches. This means that their interventions are grounded in the latest research and clinical evidence, ensuring that patients receive care that is proven to be effective.

  • PSPs often work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals, such as orthopedic specialists, neurologists, physical therapists, and pain management specialists. This collaborative approach ensures that patients receive comprehensive care that addresses all aspects of their condition.

  • PSPs prioritize patient education, empowering individuals to actively participate in their care. This involves explaining the nature of their condition, discussing treatment options, and providing guidance on lifestyle modifications to support recovery and prevent future issues.

  • Rather than focusing solely on symptom relief, a Primary Spine Practitioner considers the long-term well-being of the patient. They may develop comprehensive care plans that address both immediate concerns and strategies for ongoing spine health.

Dr. Amanda Sellers, DC

Rehab Chiropractor Specializing in Active Care and Women’s Health

I’m Dr. Amanda Sellers, a rehab chiropractor who helps people move better, feel stronger, and get back to doing the things they love without living in pain or relying on constant care.

I grew up in North Bay, Ontario, where sports were a huge part of my life. I played competitive Ringette, Hockey, and Soccer, and later competed in varsity Ringette while attending the University of Western Ontario. Being active shaped who I am and ultimately led me down the path of rehabilitation and chiropractic care.

I earned my Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Port Orange, Florida, graduating in March 2020. After working in multiple chiropractic offices, I started noticing a pattern that didn’t sit right with me. Care was often rushed, volume driven, and one size fits all. Patients were given basic exercises with little progression and no real preparation for the physical demands of daily life.

That’s why we opened Momentum Spine and Sport. I wanted to practice differently. Our focus is individualized, movement based care that helps people not only get out of pain, but stay out of pain by building strength, confidence, and resilience. My goal is to guide patients toward independence so they feel capable and confident in their bodies long term.

My mission is to help people move with confidence through evidence informed, active care that prioritizes long term results. I believe healthcare should empower you, not make you dependent. The goal is not just pain relief, but the ability to live, work, train, and parent without fear of movement.

Becoming an Advocate

September 2023 — Everything stalled

My Florida chiropractic license application was suddenly put on hold… with no real explanation.

November 9, 2023 — Denied (for a technicality)

I went in front of the Florida Board of Chiropractic Medicine and was denied my license because my Bachelor’s degree wasn’t earned in the United States—even though I graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic (Florida).

August 2023 — Back to Florida

Cory and I moved from Lake Tahoe, California back to Florida to be closer to family, start a family, and build our own rehab chiropractic practice.

Behind the scenes — We pushed for change

While we kept building our future, the Florida Chiropractic Association—along with incredible attorneys and lobbyists—worked tirelessly to help fix the process for international degrees.

January 24, 2024 — HB 1063 was proposed

A new bill was introduced to allow an accrediting agency to evaluate international Bachelor’s degrees. I spoke. I cried. And I knew we were making real change.

February 8, 2024 — Senate hearing

The bill went to the Senate. I spoke again (and cried again). It passed favorably.

June 18, 2024 — Waiting on the Governor

HB 1063 had already passed the House and Senate, but it sat in the stack waiting to be presented to the Governor—slower than usual.

June 26, 2024 — Signed into law

Governor Ron DeSantis signed HB 1063. The legal fight was finally over.

October 13, 2024 — Mission complete

I became a licensed chiropractor in the state of Florida.

What started as a license setback turned into a mission. Today, we bring that same persistence into every patient plan—helping people in Florida move better, get stronger, and feel confident in their bodies again.
